Whether planned or unplanned, a pet going in for surgery can be a stressful time. During the surgery, our staff will care for your pet while providing you with frequent status updates. Following any procedure, a surgery dismissal appointment will allow you ample time to meet with Dr. Rod to answer any questions, discuss his findings, and review recommended follow up. Follow-up calls from the vet clinic in the days following a surgical procedure provide us with the opportunity to see how things are going and to answer any questions you may have once home.
Pre-Anesthetic Appointment
Prior to any planned surgical procedure, Dr. Rod will examine your pet to ensure her or she is healthy enough for surgery and anesthesia. This can be done during an annual wellness exam if the procedure is scheduled to be completed within 10 days of that appointment. Pre-anesthetic blood work is strongly encouraged, not only to confirm your pets overall health, but also to allow our veterinary staff to tailor an anesthetic and pain management protocol specifically to meet your pet’s needs, making him or her as safe and comfortable during the experience as possible.
Spaying or Neutering Your Pet
There are many benefits to spaying (for female pet) and neutering (for male pets). In addition to controlling the pet population and decreasing the number of abandoned pets, many behavioral issues can also be addressed. We are proud to offer our patients Complete Care Surgical Packages, which provide your pet with all services necessary for a safe and comfortable procedure while saving you money. Prairie Ridge Veterinary Clinic encourages you to learn more about these procedures and ask about them at your next appointment.
- Cat Neutering—Addresses negative behaviors such as roaming, fighting, and urine marking
- Cat Spaying—Nearly eliminates the possibility of your pet having mammary cancer, while reducing noisy heat cycles and urine marking
- Dog Neutering—Decreases wandering, urine marking, aggressiveness, and other undesirable behaviors
- Dog Spaying—Your pet’s chances of developing life-threatening medical conditions including mammary cancer drops to nearly 0% if spaying is done early.

“I began to bring in my labs into PRVC when I started working there, and was happy to have such a caring and knowledgeable doctor to take care of two of my best friends. It always amazes me just how much care goes into each and every animal, let alone the perseverance of Dr. Yetter and staff (I should call them family) in working out how to treat each and every problem.”
